The Howrah – New Jalpaiguri Shatabdi Express is a superfast express fully airconditioned train connecting Kolkata and New Jalpaiguri. It is the fastest train in the Howrah - New Jalpaiguri section covering a distance of 566 km in a span of 8 hours. The train runs at an average speed of 70 km per hour (excluding halts). The train comprises 8 AC Chair Cars, 1 Executive Class coach & 2 End-On-Generation Cars. Recently The train is modified to Swarna standards with advanced features & also from 10-01-2020 this train is hauled by a matching WAP-7 of Howrah Electric locomotive shed. Past it was Fastest Diesel Hauler Shatabdi Express but NFR changes the traction from Diesel to Electric Locomotives. It always gets LHB Coaches.
Inaugural Date of this train 12th July 2012 though this was passed in Railway Budget 2012 - 13 by the then Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi.
Operating Speed 130kmph (81mph) maximum 73kmph (45mph) average, including halts.
